I was struck by a car as a pedestrian and the lower side of my leg has a burning sensation that hurts and is worse when sitting or lying. What can cause this?

My god daughter has the same burning in her legs and it is every day all the time.. her legs also swell.. What we r trying to find out is what causes it , what is it called and is there a cure.. if u can help please answer
