All I can tell you is what my doctor told me when I asked about drinking water when fasting before a blood test. She said I could occassionally take a sip of water to prevent my mouth from becoming too dry or suck on a few ice chips, but not to drink a whole glass of water. I don't really know for sure if there are any tests that would be affected by a sip or two of water, but if you have any doubts, just be sure to tell the person drawing your blood that you took a sip of water.
you have a valid problem here. gout is compounded by becoming dehydrated and w/u sweating it becomes more of a problem. drink as much as you can to the limit of the 8 to 12 hrs before test if u are having it for 2 different days right after the test is done drink as much as you can w/o getting water poison that is. if u were told NO fluids at all please call your doc and find out if the test can be put off until your gout flare has subsided. found this out after a friend w/gout had bout of diarrhea, his knee started hurting, he does not drink much but coffee and beer. after looking it up on the web it seems getting dehydrated is detrimental to gout flares. now if he feels one coming on he starts drinking more water, he has been so bad w/flares he has been on crutches so i know where u are coming from. ask your doc first please
