I would suggest that if you have chronic pain you do 5 things:   1) Establish a relationship with a primary care physician.   2) Get your primary physician to try to find out the underlying cause of your pain.  3)  Get your primary care physician to refer you to the appropriate specialist to treat the underlying cause of your pain....if you need surgery.. get the surgery.  If you have a medical condition that is causing your pain, this condition needs to be treated. 4)  If your primary care physician cannot control your pain, you need to be referred to a pain managment physician.   5) If your pain is not being controlled by your pain manangment physician, let that physician know so that other options can be tried.   6)  Never use illicit/illegal drugs unless you are willing to unnecessarily go to jail.
