Q: I have MANY health Problems-can you help me lose weight?

I have had fibromyalgia most of my life. I am 64 yrs. old. As I age,my weight increases every year and I can't seem to lose any of it. I also have ChronicFatigue,, Neurocardio Syncope, TMJ problems & hiatal hernia, back and neck problems to name a few. I can't seem to find any program that can help me lose weight. It's painful and exhausting to exercise, so I only do stretching and a slow treadmill. That makes me even hungrier. I weigh at least 190, and I'm 5'7" tall. I need to lose about 40 lbs. Can you help me? Here are my required prescriptions:Prevacid, Ritalin, Florinef, Allegra, Klonopin, Attenolol, Effexor. I also take these supplements to help me survive since I can't always eat what I need: Guaifenesin -for the Fibro Ester-C Tabs ,B-Complex & B-12 sub lingual, Vitamin E, Salmon Oil, Calcium, cultured yogurt for constant yeast infections from anti-biotics. Bless my day and reply to my request if and when you can. Thanks!!I will answer any questions you may have about my meds and conditions. cgroberts@fairpoint.net

Lots of problems! And now the weight gain- that certainly doesn't help wth the FM or CFS or the back problems, etc. I looked up your drugs and unfortunately weight gain can be a side effect of quite a few of them; prevacid, florinef (a blood volume enhancer), attenolol and effexor. Because they can cause weight gain doesn't mean they will but they could. Its possible weight gain may be something of a tradeoff you have to consider vs whatever benefits your recieving from the drugs.

The other aspect, of course, is a proper diet and getting exercise. Exercise if done properly is beneficial in FM and even CFS patients benefit from the right kind of 'exercise'. Since weight bearing exercise is probably difficult for you given your weight and back problems why don't you try some pool exercises; start very slowly but be consistent and you should be able to increase your fitness, reduce your neck and back problems and drop some weight as well.

Good luck!
