Muscle spasms can be very painful...They usually occur when a muscle becomes strained (a 'muscle pull") which causes inflammation in the area around the muscle which, in turn, can cause the muscle can go into spasm - leading to severe pain at times. Muscle strains (spasms) usually heal within a couple of days or weeks. Usually ice or heat, rest and/or inflammatories can help.
Resting is usually only advised for a day or two in order to keep blood flowing to the area. Good luck!
