Monday, June 25, 2012 Linda asks

Q: my fingers lock up when holding something, I have to pry my fingers open,Also leg, toes. cramp

Sorry,, some how I couldnt finish... when my hands cramp up.. it is very painful and I have to pry them open. Also, I was leaning on my knee's picking up around the house, and my calfs did the same thing, and then my toes.... what is going on???? has anyone experienced this??? I do suffer from Fibromyalgia,,Osteo-A.. but cant think of nothing that would  cause this..............thank you all in advance for any info you can provide..... Linda

That sounds quite painful! I think you're going to have to see a doctor to resolve this. A search on the internet suggested that a number of things can cause cramping, including dehydration (not a problem in your case), altered balance of electrolytes in your system (possible), an undiagnosed case of diabetes or hypothyroidism, vascular disease, a disorder called sarcoidosis, excess alcohol and even liver disease. 

 

Many of these disorders can be ruled in or out with simple blood tests. Good luck on getting this resolved!

Dear Cort,

 My appologies for getting back to you sooner,, as it turned  out,, YES.. MY THYROID *hypo- was very low-   0.01, I did check the web, and found normal Hypothyroidism numbers, and when i got my lab from the Doctors, I was pretty concerned,, I have yet to hear from my doctor,, it has been two weeks since i received the results via mail.... One thing I didnt read is..... Am I in a danger being this low?.. last lab results I was too high.. .. it is going back and forth..... hmm any other expert advice?  THANK YOU CORT...... LINDA

Oh BTW Cort,,,

  My balance is constantly off,,, i trip over a pocket of air..... lol.. (not real funny) I have been this way since i can remember my mother calling me "grace" or a "clutz"  nice huh???... Anyways,, wanted to toss that one out there, since you mentioned it in your answer.. I have been tested for M.S. my aunt has it. Also, my mom has lupus.. so both sides of the family have something going on,,,, .. So,, i thought i would toss that one out at you as well Cort......

   This is something that happens often, not just when my thyroid is out of whack...            Thanks Cort,,, hope your enjpying your summer (i your you deserve it_  ty Linda
