With holding pain Meds?
Today my husband went down to pick up my pain medicine, which BTW is Non-Narcotic, for the record. He was told by the pharimist that he could not pick them up for another 2 days, due in part to a message that was left in my record it states that since I chonicly pick up my pain medicine early 'they' will no longer allow us to pick them up any earlier then 30 days, even if the Ins. has 'ok.'d' them and will pay. This is a pharmacy decision not the Ins. companys. I have only been picking them a day or 2 early after I had spoke with one of the pharmists a couple of months ago and he said 'Well since your Dr. has you taking them one to two pills at a time, you know you can pick them up after the 28 days has passed and your ins. will cover it, so as you won't run out again". I thought ok great and I did and have been picking them up on the 28 or 29 day, usually have a few left but knowing I have some for the weekend has always been a relief till now. I am afraid I have been Labeled! My worst fear....grr. Anyone have any suggestions? Would love to hear what I can do about this. Is this legal?
Thank's for listening.

Apparently pharmacies are getting really strict about any kind of pain medications because I had a similar problem recently and I don't have insurance so it was definitely the pharmacy. I guess theoretically if you always pick up a 30-day prescription 28 days after your last refill date, you could be stockpiling them. I know it sounds ridiculous but I suspect they're trying to protect themselves.
Since one of their pharmacists told you that you could pick them up after 28 days, maybe you could go talk to them and explain that and ask them why it's a problem. I can't help but wonder what you're supposed to do if you're going out of town and need your meds to take with you. If all else fails, you might try another pharmacy.

I was told no more than 7 days early over the life of a controlled substance prescription. Meaning that if you have a script with 3 refills, 3 can be 2 days early and the last 1, 1 day early. I have insurance and this is NY state..Pharmacys DO get weirded out when you take controlled meds for chronic pain. I think they are covering their backsides though, which I understand. Especially when you take several that are. My pain NPs actually write on the top of the script, the NAME and branch, of the pharmacy. That way I can only get mine at the same one everytime.
