Sunday, February 22, 2009 Allen Barrett asks

Q: hand pain

hand pain burning and not able to bend the last two fingers of my hand no numbness or tingling. just a burning pain in my palm, under my ring finger and  my pinky finger. I can bend my thumb first finger and middle finger fine. but not able to make a fist. I have not injured my hand. I have had cortizone shots in my middle finger of my right hand. and it hurts.!! do not want to do that again. but this is in my left hand. What could be going on?  no injury. anybody has any ideas please let me know.

It could be tendonitis, which is an inflammation of one or more tendons in the hand.  If so, the general recommendation is to rest the hand and use over-the-counter pain releivers for the pain.  However, you would need to see a doctor to rule out other possible causes.  You might also try our Symptom Checker to see if it suggests any other possiblities.
