How can I find a doctor who will help me?!

I am trying to find a doctor in my new town who will prescribe me Stadol NS, which is the only medicine that has ever worked to help treat my severe migraines.  So far, 2 docs have refused saying that the medication is "addictive".  I am at my wits end and in terrible pain.  I would be willing to go pretty much anywhere in Central Illinois to find a doctor who gets it!  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

How frequent are your Migraines? In addition to it's adiction potential, if used more than two or three days a week, Stadol can make matters worse by causing medication overuse headaches, aka rebound. If you have three or more Migraines a month, preventive therapies should be investigated.

Your best bet for making progress with your Migraine treatment would be to see an actual Migraine specialist. If you need help finding one, you can check out our listing of Patient Recommended Specialists.

I can't predict which, if any, of these doctors would prescribe Stadol. It can't stop a Migraine, only mask the pain for a few hours. Most doctors prefer to prescribe Migraine abortive medications such as the triptans -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc. -- because they actual can abort a Migraine.

Good luck in your search for relief,

Teri Robert
