Tylenol 3 IS a narcotic.Tylenol 3 is a narcotic pain medication that contains both Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Codeine (Codeine being the active, narcotic ingredient). The 3 means that there is 30mg of codeine combined with 300mg of acetaminophen. Codeine is a prescription strength narcotic pain reliever.

There are Tylenol 1, 2, 3 and 4

Tylenol 1 contains 325mg acetaminophen/8 mg codeine/15mg caffiene

Tylenol 2 contains 300mg acetaminophen/15mg codeine

Tylenol 3 contains 300mg acetaminophen/30mg codeine

Tylenol 4 contains 300mg acetaminophen/60mg codeine

Acetaminophen is also found in other narcotic-based analgesics such as Percocet which contains oxycodone.

To answer your question, yes, it is a narcotic due to the codeine in the medication.
