My understanding is that its difficult to take most pain relievers because they can stress the liver which, of course, is already stressed by hepatitis C.  The pain prescriptions I've seen for hepatitis C involve low doses of over-the-counter medications - as prescribed by your doctor.

Instead of focusing on pain medications some doctors focus on alternative therapies such as relaxation techniques, meditation, biofeedback, self hypnosis, etc. Check out this US Department of Veteran Affairs website for some tips on how to deal with hepatitis C pain.
