Q: Does anyone here have the chronic pain disease of chronic adhesive arachnoiditis? Dee:)...
I suffer from a few ailments, Chronic adhesive arachnoiditis, fibromyalgia, diabetes type 2, major depressiob and generalized anxiety, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. I have a drop foot (on my left) Sciatia pain, spina bifida in my lower back and neck but still can walk, spinal stenosis. And more but these are the major ones. I take many meds I wish I didn't have to take and which makes me tired. That's enough of that for now.
Hi,
I suffer from chronic pain due to adhesive arachnoidiis, having had four lumbar back surgeries in a nine year span, the last one was a six inch fusion, L4-L5 to L5-S1 in 2005. I manage my pain with swimming (using primarily my arms the entire 1,000 meters) I swim twice a week. The other days I walk. I have massage therapy once a week with occasional reflexology (massaging of my feet. I just discovered this. Amazing how massaging certain points on my feet feels like my spine is being massaged, but internally!) I also take women's one a day, Fish oil, and prescribed medications for my pain, arthritis, depression and glaucoma. It is difficult for me to sit or stand in one place for very long.
My husband of 22 years is the love of my life and great supporter. We have three children who continue to keep me focused on the good things in life. Some days are worse than others. I grow tired of this disease of adhesive arachnoiditis and still after all of these years have difficulty accepting that there is no cure. We are darned if we do and darned if we don't in terms of physical movement and how it affects the scar tissue and inflammation in our spines. I have lost faith in there ever being a cure. I have yet to find someone in the medical field who really understands this disease. Two different Pain Management doctors I have seen over these past six years have each suggested either a spinal stimulator and or injections of steroids to cope with my pain. No way will I EVER let a doctor touch my spine again unless he or she can give me 100% assurance that I will be 100% pain free. In the meantime I try to keep mind over matter, withstand discomfort and function as best I can. There is no right answer to pain management. But knowing that I am not alone, that it is not all in my head, is very helpful.
