Wednesday, June 27, 2012 Sandy asks

Q: My grandson needs help paying for Suboxone.

For the first year, he was able to get his medication at no cost through the Here to Help Program but during the last 6 months, he has had a lot of trouble paying for it on his own because the monthly doctor visits are $130.00 each and the suboxone is over$400.00 a month.  He is doing so well on the program but it is getting harder for him to pay this much money with no health insurance where he works.  He has gradually cut his dose in half but still needs to continue on the medication.  Is there any help for him in paying for this medication while he continues to reduce the dose.  We help as much as we can but it is very costly.  Please let us know where to go or who to ask.  Thank you.

You might want to check out a website called NeedyMeds which provides information on drug companies that discount their drugs for lower income people.  Most of the opportunities for reduced or even free drugs are never used because many people are unaware they exist.

Check out the Patient Assistant Programs on Needymeds to see if Subuxone's drug manufacturer offers help. Good luck!

Hi Sandy, just wanted to let you know that while I don't have any that I KNOW FOR SURE will help, I googled "help paying for suboxone" and a few things came up:

http://www.rxassist.org/Search/Prog_Details.cfm?program_Id=386&PD_Id=1297&Drug_Id=2217&Company_Id=173&search_type=2&CFID=5858845&CFTOKEN=43105913

You may also want to check out state help, not sure what state you are in and if he has any health insurance at all, or is able to get any??  Hope this helps a little bit.
