The regular flu shot does not protect against HINI. Most of the flu in the US has turned out to be HINI not the regular flu. Whether or not to get the flu shot is a personal decision. People at the highest risk of having a severe reaction to HINI are young children, pregnant women and people with medical conditions for whom the flu could have serious effects. Except for these individuals there doesn't seem at this point to be an increased risk for a serious illness from H1N1  relative to the normal flu. That said any flu can have serious consequences.

If you have FM or chronic fatigue syndrome most physicians do not recommend you get the flu shot because of an increased risk of a bad reaction.
