FROM OUR EXPERTS
As a kid, our family always joked about my shoulders. In elementary school, one of the requirements in physical education was climbing a rope. I could never do it. I admitted at the time that I was a wimp. I was a bit better by junior high when gym class offered a segment on tennis. I got to be pretty good, developing a great one-hand backhand although I never had a killer serve.
By middle age, I’ve found that my shoulders can still be a problem area if I’m not careful. Several years ago, I went geocaching with a friend in a wilderness area and she took us up a sharp hill to hunt for a cache. What comes up must come down, which meant I had to negotiate a steep decline after looking for the cache. I grabbed a tree to help stabilize my descent; that seemed to go well at the time, but a few days later, I was in pain. The discomfort lasted for a while and, while not formally diagnosed, it’s taken some targeted massage therapy and some focused exercises to re...
Hello, I have been having sharp throbbing pain and stiffness in my neck and shoulders. This pain has been going on for a few weeks. I also have bad pain all around the top of my head. The pain occurs at night and in the morning when I wake up and usually last all day long. It may go away for a couple hours throughout the day but it does come back. Other symptoms I am experiencing is nausea, occasional tenderness, I feel emotional and vulnerable, and there is pressure in my head and I do feel it when I move it or sit still. I do not feel any pressure in my eyes or any vision problems and I do not hear any swishing in my ears. I have tried over the counter medications such as Advil, Aleve, and Excedrin migraine. But none of them work. I have also been experiencing shortness of breath in the morning for the past few days, feeling very cold before going to bed and a sharp pain going across my upper abdomen. I have gone to the doctor and he wasn’t very much help...
I have Intermittent sharp pain on left side of my head. The pain is left side, near back of head. It started 6 days ago, I have tried several over counter meds. Excedrin Migraine, to BC Powders. Nothing has worked.
I have made appointment with my Doctor, next week. What do you think this pain could be. I have never suffered with Migraine Head aches before. Thank You, Joann.
The pain you describe could be any number of things. You don't mention how long the pain lasts. If it lasts just seconds, it could be ice pick headaches, but only your own doctor will be able to confirm a diagnosis. You can find some information on ice pick headaches in Ice Pick Headaches - The Basics .
Are you having any other symptoms? If not, these are unlikely to be Migraines because Migraines have other symptoms in addition to head pain. See Anatomy of a Migraine for more infor...
