When someone comes to me in this very same situation, I try to be open and non-judgmental. I realize that some people do not like to see doctors and some doctors do not like to prescribe pain medications or treat pain. This drives pain patients to the streets which is not only dangerous, but also risks serious legal trouble. Of course, I have to verify information for safety's sake. So, I use urine drug screening and contact the Department of Justice for medication information on all patients. These tools help me to keep the dishonest, "bad apples" out. And you know what they say about bad apples... they ruin the basket. My patients appreciate these efforts because they would hate to see a legitimate pain management practice ruined. If there is nothing but honesty between you and your doctor, there should not be a problem.

Another option to help get off of methadone or other street drugs is Suboxone. My sharepost next week will explain Suboxone in detail. For now, you can find information at www.turntohelp.com  This website can also help you find a doctor who can help. Stay tuned for more information.

You seem like such a nice doctor. You do not find that anymore these days! You are awesome, from what I hear so far. I dont know if you read my post or not, about mine getting stolen today, but I know I need to file a police report, but I dont know what I am going to do until then. I am scared he will not re-prescribe them, or not believe me. I mean its never happened to me before, but I know how strict everything is getting these days, I dont want to be discharged or looked at like I am wrong, cause I do regular urine tests, everything is fine, its in my system, and no issues but he just increased them for me because I am getting alot of dental work done with my taxes and the dentist told me to have a few extra pills for those days of procedure, and I dont want him to think I took them or sold them, cause I found out that this is a bad situation with the celebrities overdosing and street drug problems, and I am so scared he is not going to help. What do i do?

For starters, be honest with your doctor and tell him how you have tried it and it seems to help you. He cannot do worse than say no. If you need a second opinion, then that is your perogative to do so. I see a pain management doctor and that is what he prescribes for me. It is highly addictive so you may have a problem with getting your doctor to prescribe it. I have to have urinalysis to make sure that my meds are in order, due to the high risk of dependency and abuse in others. There are other alternatives to this as well, and you need to talk to your doctor about them. Doctors are there for you and you need to ask questions and expect honest answers from them. You are paying them, and they are obligated to keep your information confidential. I wouldn't advise taking other people's prescriptions. Too many problems can occur, especially when drug interactions can occur and harm you physically.

I hope this helps. I find honesty is best when dealing with your doctor.

I wish you success!

I am sure you know the drugs you get on the street could be very dangerous. I would be honest with you Dr.  Methadone is used MDs to treat chronic pain. But you need to have regular EKG because it can cause sudden seroius changes which can cause death.  I took Methadone for 2 years  before my pain pump I was taking 70mg/day split into 3 doses. Take to your doctor.
