Are muscle spasms usually associated with fibromyalgia?

Morgan
08/16/08

I wake up at night with horrile muscle spasms in my calf muscles. Are muscle spasms usually associated with FM / CFS, or is this a totally different problem?

 Thanks for your help.

                                    Wishes of good health,

                                         Morgan

They certainly can be. Check out Peter, another FM sufferer, who has the same problem.

I too suffer from fibro and have just recently started having musclespasms,(charlie horse type) in my legs at night. I am on valium for muscle spasms, prescribed by my pain management doc. It seems to help quite a bit. I was taking soma but it would knock me out everytime I would take it. Good luck and God bless! Survival101

I have fibromyalgia and I get muscle spasms in my calf muscles, legs, back, nec, and stomach. I have to take a muscle relaxer to help them. Warm bathes also help.  When I seen my doctor last week I asked him if they can be associated with Gibromyalgia and he said yes it was a symptom of it.

Just today my husband said, "what is making you spasm and flail during the night"? I guess I am asleep during these episodes but now I know whay I hurt so bad in the morning. It's like someone twisted all my muscles in to knots. I only sleep the first few hours after going to bed and then I half-sleep and toss and turn the reat of the night, probably because of the spasms. I've had the calf muscle thing too that just is horrific.

Ain't it swell?
