Q: Puncture wound to foot

Hi, I got a puncture wound in the bottom in step of my foot in the shower from a plastic sharp shampoo cap. It bled a lot and the next day I could hardly walk on it. It seemed to then get better but now it is 2months later and I still have pain in my foot and a bump.  Should I see a pediatrist and what could be going on? I am afraid  I should have went to the doctor earlier and now may have a lifelong problem. Thanks Melissa

Yes, Melissa you've got to get in there. My understanding is that infected wounds usually are reddish and swollen, often have pus emanating from them and can be smelly. This suggests that your pain perhaps does not come from an infection but from scar tissue. This is, of course, only a laymen's guess - you'll have to see a doctor to find out.

It is possible to actually get in there and remove scar tissue at times. Correctly applied massage can help break it up for some people as well.  Whatever is going on good luck with the doctor.
