Bilateral foot pain X 6 months. I have Metabolic Syndrome.

2 years ago I was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. My fasting blood sugar was 104. 6 months ago I tore a ligament in my right ankle. Limping on R foot (I guess) caused my L foot to hurt.  Then both feet started hurting all the time - day and night. Burning pain with occasional sharp stabbing sensation. Have problems sleeping due to pain. Saw orthopedist - rx Lyrica - helped pain for a couple of days - I still take it daily and have constant pain both feet. Saw rheumatologist - rx ultram - did not help at all. Saw podiatrist - said I have Morton's Neuroma and to buy wide shoes and Spenco inserts.  Is there anyway that a slightly elevated blood sugar can cause diabetic neuropathy in my feet?  PLEASW HELP!

Yes, metabolic syndrome is at times (unfortunately) associated with peripheral neuropathy. That condition, which is often associated with diabetes, can show up in 'pre-diabetic' conditions such as metabolic syndrome.

Have you tried Topiramate? One study showed that it seemed to be effective in reducing peripheral neuropathy in metabolic syndrome patients and they lost weight, reduced their bad fatty acid levels and their blood pressure as well - not a bad deal.
