Q: Seeking Recommendation for a TENS Unit

I have been given a prescription for a TENS unit for home use, which I believe will really help because it helped during physical therapy. There are so many different ones available in a wide price range. What do I look for? Can you recommend a particular make or model?

I got mine from RS medical, it is the small portable one, hooks like a cell phone does... I like the small one cause I can take it with me if I go somewhere, and it goes unnoticed...Here is the website of the tens I own...

I personally like my EMPI TENS device because it has so many different modes so that my body can't get used to any one mode-where as most of the cheaper TENS units have 2 or 3 modes, mine has 12 unique ones- some of which work better with different types of pain.

I'd recommend asking your PT for a recommendation. I normally would have bought a cheaper one, but when he gave me that information, and thought that it would be more appropriate for my condition, I was happy to put up the extra money for good pain relief.

Hi Mary! I also just got a tens unit from RS Medical. It's been probably 6 or 7 years ago since I've had one to use, But I can honestly say that of all of the different types of units I've tried, this one is by far the best!! It's much smaller than the older ones I used to use, and so much more versatile. I can make that thing do anything, anywhere, and I thought it was sooo cool that it came with a spear rechargeable battery that you can just pop in when the other needs starts dying on you. What a cool idea! I have no idea how much it cost, since I am a worker's comp case and have all of my medical care costs paid for per my settlement. But I remember years and years ago having a unit which cost almost $1,200!! Geez! I hope the prices have come down over the years! (Remember when digital watches used to cost $400 when they first came out? Now you can get them in a bubble gum machine for a quarter!!) Stacey
