My husband is on this for a recent spinal double fusion surgery and it has turned him into a complete nightmare. We don't want to be around him at all when he is awake. I have two boys, 16 and 9 years old. He is making our lives a living hell.

If you're feeling badly just think how he's feeling. Percocet is just one of many painkillers; if the dose isn't working or the drug is not a good one for him then he should inform his doctor and try something else. Vicodin, for instance, contains a different narcotic and is a commonly used alternative.
Besides that you might ask your health care provider or hospital if they have pain management courses your husband can participate in. They can be very helpful for his and hence for your quality of life. Good luck!
