I have fibro & have had chronic thrush in mouth & esophagus for 1 1/2 yrs. Tried Nystatin, Difulcan

and it keeps coming back (or never goes away). I had an endoscophy earlier this year & and a biopsy was done & confirmed it was thrush. Mouth & nasal passages extremely dry from medications/fibro. Have changed most of the fibro meds that can cause dry mouth to different medications. Tried taking Nystatin 4X a day for 2 weeks along with using Peridex mouthwash as well as flossing & brushing tongue. I am open to alternative medicine treatments. I found a dietary supplement by Solaray called Yeast-Cleanse which contains Caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco, Grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil. Have you heard of this? I read somewhere that taking 100mg a day of Difulcan for 2 weeks might work (with an initial dose of 200mg). What about this? What kind of specialist would I see? My doctors, PMC,immunologist, gastroenterologist have no ideas. I am using OTC products for the dry mouth (e.g. Biotene). Haven't found anything that really helps with extremely dry nasal passages. Do you know of anything? Thanks, Karen

This can be a difficult problem and can take awhile to fix. Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum is a well known Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia doctor. You can find his pretty extensive regimen for yeast at the URL below. (You can find his protocol for yeast about halfway down the page.) Perhaps theres something in it for you.

Good luck.

I am not a doctor but fellow sufferer and I asked the same question just now.I have contracted staph and yeast in my mouth from oral implants.I too went through the same meds you mentioned and I am at my wits endl.I look 20 years older than I am and I am only 57.Thanksgiving really isn't all that is cracked up to be if you cannot chew.I do not know why people do not take this more seriously. After all people with AIDS die from low immune system and that is what ends up killing them.Yes I am also scared to death myself.I hope that we both get some answers. Please keep me updated if you get some answers for yourself.Take care...Jo

Thrush has been a problem off and on for me as well.  Acidopholus with Probiotic taken in pretty large doses twice a day, more if it is slow to respond. and it will definitely help. The Acidopholus with Probiotic from Trader Joes' is great, about $14.95, and is very fresh.  Just refrigerate after opening. Other good ones can be bought at you drug store, and Health Food Stores. Just check the expiration dates.

When the thrush is bad, I take five tablets at night, four in AM.  If it causes the

"runs" just cut back on dosage.  Also gargling with 1 TBS Hydrogen Peroxide in a half cup water is really good as well.  Try these and hopefully this will help.
