Sunday, August 24, 2008 Loretta Johnson asks

Q: I've had a cough for 3 years

I've been coughing for three years now. I have seen the ENT, doctor for the past year, to no avail, he has sent me to have a barrium swallow, and now he is sending me fo an upper GI. I've taking cough syrup to no avail. What really bothers me is that the doctors are taking to long to find out why all the coughing. I am a smoker of no more than 10 cigaretts a day, I also have an allergy. It seems just about every thing makes me cough, dishwashing liquid my food, air freshner, and even the air conditioner. What is wrong here.

From Loretta at my wits end.......................................

Thats rough! Thats something only your doctors will (hopefully soon) be able to tell you but why don't you check out the symptom checker for Health Central. It has a section on coughs and colds. Maybe it can give you some general idea of what is or is not going on.

You can find it at

Good luck with the cough
