Q: What causes the loss of the Mylan sheathing around the Spinal Nerves ?

I remember when the Dr' was giving me those Myobloc Spine injections said that I had an extensive loss of the Mylan sheathing around the nerves which was part of the reason the nerves were so tender even to touch or hot and cold sensativity. The Nerve pain is exhausting and it never stops! I've been wondering though what caused it ?

My understanding is that demyelination is generally caused by inflammation; either the immune system is fighting off something around those nerves - and accidentally damaging them in the process - or its mistakenly begun attacking the myelin sheathing; ie an autoimmune reaction has started.

It doesn't sound like fun.... I wish you luck!

Thank you for answering. In regards to the demyelination process is there a way of finding out the specific causes or testing the fluid around those nerves ? Sounds like an infection or virus of some sort by your description. Could it be from the extensive spine surgeries alone ? It's my understanding it's the protective coating that surround the nerve fibers. I mean there must be somekind of testing to narrow it down. Thank you~
