Q: Trauma to Liver

The injury was a two broken ribs, collapsed lung, lacerated spleen and 61% damage to my liver.  During my recovery, I acquired staph infection on my liver, an abcess close to the size of the palm of your hand.  I had to have two JP Drains on the liver and than an I.V. P.I.C.C. for one month.  Both were removed in June 2012.  I am doing really good now.  I am experiencing pain in my side where the injury was as well as shortness of breath.  I have really long hair and now I am having hair loss as well as weight gain.Anyone out there with any similiar experiences would be of help.  I constantly am being told give it time.  I would just love to hear from others with similiar situation.ThanksRhonda

Hi Rhonda, I wish I could offer some experience with this. (Actually I'm glad I can't; that was quite an experience you went through :)). One thought, though, regarding the weight gain and hair loss - are you still taking any prescription drugs? If you are you might check their side effects to see if they could be causing either of these problems. In the meantime, congratulations on getting most of the way back....and good luck on getting all the way back.

Thank you for the response.

Because of the weight gain and hair thinning/loss I went to my family physician and he said my TSH Levels were up and placed me on Levothyroxine .05mg for the Thyroid.  My Liver Enzymes and Potassium are really high.

I was taking Biotin and that is how I discovered this website and some made mention Biotin caused them to have weight gain so I stopped taking Biotin right now and we'll see what happens.
