Costal chondritis is inflammation of the ribs or the cartilage between ribs. Although scientists are now saying that all pain has some component of inflammation involved, inflammation is not the primary problem in fibromyalgia.  FM is primarily a central nervous system problem that results in pain amplification. While fibromyalgia can certainly exacerbate the pain of costal chondritis, it is unlikely that it caused it.
