Q: Can i take Vicodin and Tylenol 3 at the same time?

I had my wisdom tooth removed and the pain is still unbearable.  The vicodin isn't getting the pain completely gone. Would it be wise to take a Tylenol 3 as well?

I wouldn't recommend taking both together without asking your doctor.  There are two reasons:  1) Both hydrocodone and codeine are opioids and cause respiratory depression.  Taking too much of any opioid or opioid combo can result in an accidental overdose.  (You could fall asleep and stop breathing.)  2) Both medications contain acetaminophen.  If you take too much acetaminophen in one dose, it can damage your liver.  If the Vicodin isn't providing enough pain relief, call your oral surgeon.
