Hi John,    There are lots of pain drugs out there. A good number of them are narcotic type drugs that probably work in a similar fashion to those you're taking.  Lyrica works in an entirely different fashion and has  recently been approved for fibromyalgia. Several drugs that were originally tabbed as anti-anxiety and anti-depressants can also be quite helpful in pain. I've heard that the nervous system circuits that effect pain, anxiety etc. are apparently found close to and interact with  each other - so those are real possibilities.  If you have inflammation there are anti-inflammatories and, of course, there are muscle relaxants as well.    Some people with pain are also helped by meditation techniques called 'mindfulness based stress reduction'.
