Sunday, October 11, 2009 Sandy asks

Q: One Dr floroscope says hip is very bad. need replacement. Surgeon says hip x-rays normal. Now what?

I have a genetic disorder which has required several joint fusions and/or replacements. Having severe lower back/hip pain. Neurosurgeon (has done several spinal fusions on me in the past) says mylegram shows spine is OK. Probably hip pain. At Pain Clinic, Dr uses fluroscope to position needle for hip injection says hip in bad shade-will most likely need replacement. Go to hip surgeon who does x-rays- says hip is fine. X-rays normal. Effects of injection had been wearing off although very effective initially, Held off on more injections since Appt with hip surgeon was upcoming. Now hip beginning to hurt worse. What to do now???

Dear Sandy,

What kind of pain meds are you on?  Also, is it possible to take your xrays to another doctor/surgeon, and get a second opinion.  I know that if you do certain exercises you can avoid hip replacement, but depending the amount damage there is to the hip joint.  What I would do is get access to you xrays, I always get a copy of  mine on a disc, and a written report so that I can take them to my chiroproactor.  Even though some doctors don't think chiropractors are real doctors, chiropractors have a better knowledge of the spinal system and what bones do what.  I don't know what fluroscope is email me and give me some more details.
