L5 /S1 Microdiscektomy 76 months ago.Back pain gone but weakness

Had micridiscektomy 7 mts ago Left lower extremity posterior aspect weakness numbness in buttock tingling and burning sensation lateral aspect of foot heel and two small toes. Passing water emtying bowel is difficult as tha pain is worse then same feeling ofwhen having shower .Really miserable. Please any help.

If the pain, numbness, tingling, and bowel/bladder problems are old (a pre-surgical problem), then I would say that you should give your nerves more time to heal. Severe nerve damage (the "phone line" is cut) at the level of the lumbar spine takes a great deal of time to heal because the nerve has to grow back (all the way down the leg in some cases). Nerves do not grow very fast.

 

If the pain, numbness, tingling, and bowel/bladder problems are new (a post-surgical problem), then I would say you need to be seen by your surgeon ASAP. Progressive, worsen nerve problems after surgery can be an indication that something is very wrong. For example, post-surgical infections like discitis can cause progressive nerve damage.

 

In both cases of old or new symptoms, you should talk to your doctor about finding a solution.
