Jaw popping doesn't necessarily mean you have TMJ, although that could develop later.  Generally jaw popping generally means that the disc in the jaw joint is unstable.  It would be a good idea to see your dentist to see if perhaps a mouth guard might help correct the problem and prevent it from going any further.  Here's a link to a dentist's site that explains more about jaw popping:  http://www.atlantadentist.com/jaw_popping.html
