Q: can stoping pain meds cold turkey kill me

if i have been taking large amounts of pain pills for ten yrs and stop cold turkey can it kill me or cause more damage to my body

Quitting opioid medications cold turkey is usually not recommended.  In fact, if you have a pain problem, it can actually increase your sensitivity to pain.  Read:  Quitting Opioids "Cold Turkey" Increases Pain Sensitivity


Although quitting cold turkey probably wouldn't kill you, I certainly can't say that for sure.  It has happened in situations where the person had other serious health problems and did not have any medical supervision.  Stopping pain medications should always be done under a doctor's supervision.
