Optical nerve block, all advise needed

Hey u guys...My doctor wants to try a optical nerve block, if it works, then he is going to go in and burn that nerve perminatally. Has anyone had this done, or know anything about how it is done, dose it hurt during the procedure, does it hurt worse afterwards...and did it stop the pain?...
