I'm sorry you're having problems with the forum.  Unfortunately, we've been having a number of problems with it lately – particularly problems with people trying to sign in.  However, if someone responds to your post, you should receive an e-mail with a link that will take you to the response.

Your best bet for getting a question answered is to ask it here in the Q&A section.  This section is much more active than the forum and is monitored by the Health Guides.  I'll keep an eye out if you want to ask your question on fibromyalgia medication here and will try to answer you as quickly as I can.

Hi Karen, thanks so much for your reply. My question is,does Tramadol take a while to take effect? (like some antidepressants do take a couple of weeks to start working) My doctor has recently given me Tramal,to see if it helps with the extreme pain I'm having at present. It's 50mgs 3times daily, and is having no more effect than Panadol. Many thanks

Hi Kiwi – For me, tramadol starts to take effect in about an hour.  No, it doesn't need time to build up in your system before it starts working.

Tramadol has always worked very well for me but I often hear from other FM patients who say it does nothing for their pain.  I think the difference lies in the dosage – I take 100 mg four times a day.  Since that's the maximum dosage allowed, most doctors seem to only prescribe 50 mg three times a day.  Unfortunately, that dosage is usually not very effective for fibromyalgia pain.  I don't know if your doctor would be willing to let you try taking 100 mg to see if it made a difference for you, but you might want to think about asking.

I hope you're able to get your pain under control soon. – Karen
