Q: screws in ankle how long before the pain gose away and I can walk on it without crutches

how long will I be on crutches with the screws in my left ankle and they are in there for life! And dose the pain start to go away

Your surgeon should have given you that information.  If he didn't, don't hesitate to call or go in and ask.  Every individual case is different and only your doctor can give you an accurate estimate of what to expect.  From what I've been able to find, when screws are used to position the bones after a fracture, no walking on the ankle is permitted for six weeks.  After that a removable boot or brace may be allowed.  However, that may or may not apply to your particular situation.  As for the pain, I would think it would eventually go away, or at least decrease significantly.  That's another question you need to ask your doctor.
