I have sharp pains on the top of my foot that have subsided after a couple days, but now my entire ankle hurts and is swollen. It feels as if the pain is in my entire leg. There is also discoloration in one spot on the top of my foot. This has been going on for a few days now. It doesn't really hurt to walk; it just hurts in general, but as the day goes on it's starting to hurt to do things like drive.

I'm not sure what the problem might be, but pain and swelling are indications that something is wrong. It could be a problem with the bones in your foot, with ligaments or tendons, or due to overuse. Only a trained doctor who can examine it and do the proper scans and tests will be able to tell you for certain. If it's still bothering you, you really need to have your doctor look at it.
