pain meds family and friends
why are people who are on pain meds ignored by friends and family and labeled addicts?
I have found that it is because they just simply don't understand. I must say that if I were to watch someone take all kinds of meds for pain and if I was not sure why they were taking them, it would look like they were just addicts. Keep your head up. I know that it is hard. Have you tried explaining to them why you are taking the meds? Good luck!
Wishes of good health,

My sister and I were just having this conversation yesterday...We were saying that the word "addict" has a negative stigma when people talk about it. I have heard people talk about others that are on pain meds..legal drug addicts, not knowing that I myself and my sister are too...So of course my nature is to automatically defend that issue, some will tell u I am to out spoken, but we are very protective of our reputations. So here we go in this heated "conversation" on the difference between recreational drug use and having to have it to function. We say we are DDFPR...
Dependent on Drugs for Pain Relief, like we depend on the police to protect us..we depend on drugs to ease our suffering. It takes someone that suffers with chronic pain, to understand what it truely means to be in chronic pain. Ur family should be able to see ur in chronic pain, cause it can't be hidden, so try talking with them, be honest on how they make u feel. I myself never cared what "FRIENDS" think...My family is all I care about. One last thing...We have a rule here, we tell noone but our immediate family (spouse, mother, sister) what meds we are on...In todays world everyone knows a pill head or true addict, and it can be dangerous to let that be widely spread among ur friends what u r taking. I hope u can get the support u need, if not remember we are always here...

I wrote a sharepost about being judged for taking narcotics and was really surprised how many responses I got. It is very common for others to judge because they don't understand. I've lost so called friends because of taking meds. The sad part about that is that most of the ones I lost are in the medical field. Try not to let it bother you. I know that is easier said than done. It took me a long time to realize that they must not have been true friends anyway. We know we have to take the meds and that's all that counts
