Q: my dad got the shingles

my dad got the shingles and his dr perscribed gabapentin 300 mg  and tremadol...are those the medications he should be taking or should i consider taking him to another dr????

These drugs are pretty commonly used. If the gabapentin doesn't work he might want to try Lyrica which is similar but much more expensive. Another possibility is amytriptyline which is an antidepressant that can be effective for the neuropathic pain of shingles. If he has an outbreak near the skin lidocaine patches can be helpful. Good luck to your dad!
