Acupuncture has been shown to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, increase blood flows to an area and promote healing. I know it is used, sometimes in combination with other therapies, to assist healing of herniated discs. A friend of mine has found it quite helpful with her back condition but I'm unsure if any studies have been done. A 2008 study of patients with prolapsed lumber discs found that acupuncture significantly reduced pain and increased functionality after surgery. Good luck with your search for relief.
