I suffered the same foot symptoms, and was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma. I was told that my flat feet caused me to "overpronate" when I walk, thus putting too much pressure on the balls of my feet. I even experience spontaneous spasms in my toes, resulting in it now being unsafe for me to drive a car. Custom orthotics, physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, and more appropriate shoes were the treatment. I continue to have painful flare-ups from time to time, but I have learned how to manage the discomfort by using a combination of anti-inflammatories, foot soaks, wraps, and shoe changes. I now wear a wider size shoe and must be more attentive to the types of shoes that I buy. I now purchase my shoes from internet merchants that sell shoes that are healthy for one's feet. I also suffer from arthritis, with the most painful areas being my hands, shoulders, and knees.
