Ibuprofen is certainly not a benign drug. High doses can increase the risk of stroke or heart attack and serious bleeding the stomach and intestines - you should generally as little as Ibuprofen as possible to achieve relief. Do not drink alcohol as it can increase the risk of stomach bleeding.   For more on side effects:   http://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html   Medicine.net states that when under care of a doctor your maximum dose of Ibuprofen is 3.2 grams a day. However there is a drug called Combunox which combines Ibuprofen and oxycodone (oxycontine). It has 400 mgs of ibuprofen and the maximum recommended dose is 4/day (1600) - thats exactly where you're at right now.  This suggests, unfortunately, that you should not go any higher and you should contact your physician to see about other remedies. Interestingly Combunox is only recommended for short-term use.   http://www.drugs.com/combunox.html   http://www.medicinenet.com/ibuprofen/article.htm   Good luck!
