Hi, I'm a 46 year old male who has been suffering with intense pain in my shoulder that radiates up my neck muscle on the same side. It only happens when I'm lying down, and the pain is strong enough to wake me. I have been suffering with this almost every night for the past four months. Anyone have any answers or advice?
Pains that arise during sleep often signal spinal misalignment or disc troubles. You may be sleeping in a way that exacerbates your pain, which then lessens as you loosen and stretch your muscles during the day. I'd recommend seeing a doctor or a chiropractor for help in dealing with this issue. Another option would be to take up a stretching or yoga practice, which is notorious for being able to help people with chronic pain issues achieve a better quality of life. Good luck to you!

Hello...I have 3 messed up discs in my neck and a tear in one shoulder rotator.
The pain definately goes into both my shoulders. I am going to try a new dr. who actually believes in treatment and not meds. When my Neurologist showed me my MRI on my neck and spinal cord being inbinged by herniation---it was strongly suggested that I not allow a chicroprator touch me. I use to go...I can't afford any extra twisting/fixing to my neck. I suggest a heat pad, that is what I am using this second at this time of the morning. I suffer fibromyaglia and am up and down, on the go or not throughout my days and nites. I wish u well, u may need an MD
I too was suffering from such pain, been to numerous MD's in the past 5 months, finally went to a Ciroprator, after seeing him about 8 times all together, am feeling 100% better and am currently drug free!
thanks for the reply. Did the chiropractor work on your shoulder, neck or both?
I know that when my shoulder started acting up like that, and going into my neck, it was actually my neck and even some lower in the back that was screwed up! I would find a chiropractor who has recommendations and that you trust, and go there. They will check you all out. In fact, the guy I go to now, I drive 25 miles to see, but I think he is worth it. I can walk into the exam room and he will say exactly what is wrong with me without even laying a hand on my body. Also try doing some PT at home stretches for your neck/shoulder to try to help with the muscle spasming. I'm not sure if you are using ice, if not START TO! Also have you ever used Ben-Gay or that type of stuff? I use something that is called Sombra. it is similar to Ben-Gay, my chiropractor uses Bio-Freeze, which also works well.
Hope you can figure this out and get some relief. I know how bad this type of pain can be...
