Q: I suffer from TMJ and I have dizziness/ balance problems some Drs.say it's related some say it's not

I have been suffering with TMJ for 3-4yrs.I have jaw pain, headaches, ear pain, pain in eyes, pressure in sinuses, sensitivity to light, neck pain,I am also suffering with something I don't hear about. I have dizziness/balance problems. At this point Ive used a night mouthpiece,I had TENS therapy, physical therapy.I had an MRI that proved that it is in fact TMJ.I would appreciate any info that you could provide on this debilatating problem.I've considered surgery but not sure what to do.If you have any suggestions on how I can get my life back , how I can go a day without all the symptoms that come with TMJ it would help me tremendously. Also if you've heard of other people having dizziness/balance problems with there TMJ.   THANK YOU, TMJ sufferrer

From my reading dizziness, balance problems can definitely be associated with TMJ. One school of thought believes the structural/muscular problems in the jaw are effecting the inner ear. Some doctors are very conservative in their assessments of their patients and others look at the broader picture. It doesn't seem surprising to me that TMJ could cause balance problems and most of the websites I looked at do in fact mention that possibility.

How to fix this problem? I'm afraid I can't help with that. There is a  TMJ support association; (The TMJ Association) perhaps they could guide you to a good physician (?). rRght now Google says the site has been infected recently but when they have that problem worked out, if you haven't contacted them before, maybe that would be a good idea.

Good luck.

 Me too..

I'm glad that you asked this question. I thought that I was weird for doing balance therapy during my aqua therapy b/c of TMJ. Thanks!

                                                               Wishes of good health,

P.S.

does your mouth guard sometimes cause your teeth to be sore, or is it just me?
