Researchers develop 'pacemaker for pain'

Researchers have developed a 'pacemaker for pain' that could replace medications as a tool for pain relief in some patients. Peripheral nerve field stimulation (PNFS) provides pain relief through a series of electrical leads that are placed just under the skin at the source of pain. Electricity is fed through the leads from an implanted power pack, and the patient's pain is replaced by a slight tingle.
