Health Canada issues advisory about bipolar, epilepsy med

Health Canada has issued an advisory about carbamazepine, a drug used to treat epilepsy, mania, bipolar disorder, and the facial disorder trigeminal neuralgia. The report warns users of the risk of serious skin reactions in some carbamazepine users. These conditions have been known to occur very rarely with the drug, but the risk is approximately 10 times higher in Asian countries than in Western countries.
