Painkillers During Pregnancy Linked to Birth Defects

Experts with the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention have found that pregnant women who take prescription narcotic painkillers such as codeine, oxycodone, or hydrocodone may boost the risk of birth defects in their babies. The ongoing population study also showed that the risk of congenital glaucoma, hydrocephaly, and spina bifida was also increased when pregnant women used these pain meds.
