More Than 60,000 Bottles of Extra Strength Tylenol Recalled
(Boston.com) UPDATED 2011-06-29
A subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson is voluntarily recalling 60,912 bottles of Extra Strength Tylenol caplets after detecting and receiving customer complaints of a musty, moldy odor in the pills. Moldy odor in medications has been linked to a chemical called tribromoanisole (TBA), a substance that may be transferred to meds from the pallets that are used in their storage and transport. The recall affects one lot (ABA619) of Tylenol painkillers that were made in February 2009. The bottles bear the label “Tylenol Extra Strength Caplets, 225 count” and a UPC code of 300450444271. Consumers who have purchased these Tylenol products are advised to stop taking the pain reliever and to contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare (888-222-6036, www.tylenol.com) for instructions about receiving a refund or product coupon.
