Researchers at the University of Kentucky have found that women who smoke are more likely to experience chronic pain than those who don't smoke. In a study of 6,000 women, investigators found that former smokers were 20 percent more likely to have chronic pain, women who smoke occasionally were 68 percent more likely, and women who smoke daily were 104 percent more likely. The researchers say the study's findings suggest that female chronic pain patients may also benefit from smoking cessation treatment in addition to treatment for their pain symptoms.
