TENS Unit for Pain

(Page 2)

Once you receive the TENS unit, make sure that you receive instruction from a health professional on its use. Do not attempt to change the settings or use it without this instruction.

If you have TENS performed in a doctor or physical therapist’s office, always make sure to let the professional know if the sensation is uncomfortable or if your muscles are twitching.  This may help them adjust the settings to best suit your needs.
Please keep in mind that TENS is not effective in curing pain; it can only to treat it and make the pain more tolerable.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation can be a very effective therapy to use while also exploring other pain management techniques. Many patients find that employing a combination of therapies is the most effective way to manage their pain.
