Living in the U.K. where it tends to be damp, there are usually lots of colds around in the winter. Having learned a few remedies from a French girlfriend I find garlic a great help in getting rid of colds. She suggested I have a clove or two on toast but my bread is too nice to toast, so I just spread with butter, cut up two cloves of garlic and put on it and eat.

I will eat between three and nine cloves per day like this when I have a cold but you have to be careful as it can damage the stomach lining if you eat too much but depending on severity, I keep this up for a few days. My colds do not last long.

I also eat at least one or two cloves a day normally, although sometimes I forget.
